Gastro Health is currently looking for a detail-oriented Lab Assistant to join our team!

Here are some of the duties you will be responsible for:

  • Accessions patient specimens.
  • Enters patient demographics, clinical history, specimen biopsy information into the laboratory information system; prints and attaches to the original requisition in preparation of case for the Pathologist.
  • Be able to assist putting together cases for distribution to Pathology.
  • Prints out slides and cassettes for patient specimens.
  • Work with practices to resolve any discrepancies.
  • Answers phones and respond to inquiries and requests from practices.
  • Files slides, blocks, requisitions, pathology reports, business document, etc.
  • Assist with unpacking supplies – placing them in the proper storage location and dating the appropriate items
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Required for High Complexity Testing
    1. An earned associate degree OR bachelor’s in a chemical or biological science or medical laboratory technology, obtained from an accredited institution, OR
    2. Education/training equivalent to the above that includes the following:
    • 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution. This education must include 24 hours of medical laboratory technology courses, Or 24 semester hours of science courses that include six semester hours of chemistry, six semester hours of biology, and 12 hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination, AND
    • Laboratory training including either completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES, NAACLS, or other organization approved by HHS (note that this training may be included in the 60 semester hours listed above), OR at least three months of recorded laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing.
  • 3. Must be a Registered Histology Technician (ASCP) or be eligible for such registration or have a high school education and a minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a Histology Technician or have a minimum of one year’s training under the direction of a registered Histology Technologist.
